I am officially a working women lol. I have completed my second week of work and it's amazing how much passion I have for my job. The information we are learning just fascinates me and fuels me to be the BEST nurse I can be. Sadly, I find my intern class quite cliquey and of course I am not working to make friends it just makes the job alot more enjoyable especially in the nursing field you depend on your coworkers quite a bit. Last week M and T were system orientation and then we were finally at all saints and learning about internship and had presentations from different groups like a wound care nurse and pharmacy. Thursday and Friday were mostly computer training but we did get a tour of the unit and talk a little about caring for neonatal infants. This week was way more exciting and stimulating. Monday was still computer training which was long and sadly a little boring but Tuesday started the real material of the internship. We have topics each day that we cover and slide shows that help reinforce the information. We have already covered topics such as assessment, thermoregulation, breastfeeding, mixing milk, developmental care, NEC, Chaplin services, Apnea and Bradycardia, oxygen, using some of the equipment, ostomies, pain, and many others. Wednesday was an observation day in the unit but it was hard to find a place for 11 little interns. We did a scavenger hunt and my group actually found the most things. After lunch we did musical pods were we started in a pod and stayed for 30 mins and then rotated. I ended up in pod 10 and got to feed a baby and comfort him while he got a glucose tolerance test. This test is where the baby isn't feed for 4 hours and has a heel stick every hour to make sure that the baby can hold his blood sugar even when he isn't fed. After I finished that baby's care then I helped with a different baby and got peed on for the first time and I am positive not the last. Next week should be more exciting since I will be on the unit 3 shifts I start on July 4th lol. Drew leaves a week from Sunday for 9 weeks and I am really going to miss him :( but it will be a growing experience for both of us and he is excited to finally start real work. Tomorrow is his 23 birthday so I have a few little surprises for him but we can really celebrate when Fantastic four reunites next weekend. In one last note One of my great friends Gina got married last weekend and it was an absolute beautiful wedding but I forgot my card for the ceremony so I did not get very many pictures :( but I am finally making wedding decisions for us so hopefully we will have a real date set soon!!
